43 percent of inheriting households inherited their primary residence.
Vienna. Every second inheritance in Austria is worth more than €100,000. This is according to a survey by the Austrian National Bank. According to the survey, one in three households has already inherited something or received a gift, according to the Allianz Group. 43 percent of all inheriting households inherited their primary residence, among other things. Even though the median (the value exactly in the middle) is €100,000, many households inherit significantly less. If you only look at the 40 percent who inherit the least, you arrive at an average of €14,000.
They, too, are sometimes asked to pay: For an estate valued at €20,000, notary fees of around €1,100 are to be expected, according to Xaver Wölfl, Head of Market Management at the Allianz Group in Austria. He recommends life insurance, as this is not included in the estate.
However, there are more serious mistakes when leaving an inheritance: As Heinrich Weninger explains in his book “Vermögen Richtig vererben” (Inheriting Wealth Correctly), these include ignorance of certain consequences (such as the fact that partners have no legal right of inheritance) or incomplete information (“my gold in the bank,” which doesn’t mention which bank).
